"Did you hear what she just told me about….?” I am fascinated by how the characters in “Gossip” came to be. I often start a canvas by splashing paint randomly for background, and later adding foreground for interest and texture. That's as far as I got for the longest time with this one, and the painting languished on the sidelines. One day I happened to glance over in its direction from the corner of my eye. Suddenly I saw three people wanting to be given shape! Following the energy of that creative idea to see where it would go, gradually I was able to reveal their identity. I chuckle every time I look at this painting, both because of the comical human story it conveys, and at how it seemed to call itself into existence.
