Ailsa Brown, Ailsa Brown Canvas and Clay Art
Not for sale
As a painter and a clay artist, Ailsa combines her love for painting and drawing by working on paper and canvas, and also on porcelaneous clay as surface treatment for her wheel thrown and hand-built pottery. Her two-dimensional works are created using a combination of acrylics, charcoal and pastels that allow her to express her own unique mark-making and rich visual language. For her ceramic work, Ailsa prefers clean-lined, uncomplicated forms that serve as a canvas for her painting. Underglaze stains and slips, and clear and coloured glazes are used to create art on clay that closely resemble her two-dimensional work. The primary inspiration for Ailsa’s work is the abundant organic forms found in the rich plant life and forests of the Pacific Northwest. This inspiration is derived from the strength, beauty and grace inherent in these forms as well as the spirit and movement they imbue. Ailsa magnifies intimate details of these forms, bringing awareness to the interconnectedness of all living things and the delicate relationship that exists within this sacred web of life. Whether creating on canvas or with clay, Ailsa brings nature to you in an up close and personal way, revealing both its energy and beauty.
