Diane Akey, Sitting with Sunflowers
42" x 34", Mixed Media on Fabric, CAN$1,200.00 - Available for Sale
Here’s what I’ve been up to recently. I’ve painted an old fabric wing back chair in chalk paint. I was going for a ‘Sunflower’ feeling. The whole chair has been waxed and will cure for 21 days. I used chalk paint because it is clay based and not polymer based like acrylics. The idea was that the fabric wouldn’t become as stiff if I didn’t use acrylics. By waxing the finished painted chair I should get a softer patina overall. I enjoyed using the chalk based paint. It is a lot like gauche as it is opaque and you have to let your areas dry between colours. This made the project longer as I waited 24 hours between the addition of new colours. Sunflowers are known for being “happy” flowers, making them the perfect gift to bring joy to someone's (or your) day.
