Level of Difficulty: This workshop is open to all levels.
Media: Gouache
Workshop Description: Are you like me and thinking Gouache is used to just add highlights to a watercolour painting? Well, apparently not. You can actually do an entire painting in Gouache. Tom will show us how and explain more about Gouache. You will learn what is the difference between Gouache and other mediums, how to work with it.
We will make a painting based on a reference of your choosing.
Supply List: Please bring the following supplies with you to the workshop.
- Surfaces: Hot Press Watercolour Board or Illustration Board (approximately 8" x 10" or 11" x 14")
- Brushes: Nimbus Flat Brushes: ¼”, ½”, ¾” Nimbus Round Brushes: assorted sizes, Nimbus Angle Brushes: 3/8”, ½”, ¾”
- Palette: Plastic white tray or Canson disposable palette paper
- Gouache: Recommend DaVinci Gouache Set: Black (or Payne's Grey), Titanium White, Yellow Light (or Medium), Phthalo Blue (or Cerulean), Magenta (or Red (Rose). Optional Additional Colours: (for best colour range) Burnt Umber, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Red Light, Sap Green, Ultramarine Blue.
- General Supplies: Water Cup, Paper Towels, Pencils (H and HB), Pencil Sharpener, Eraser, Low-tack Tape, Bulldog Clips.
- Photo Reference: Please bring photo reference -- printed approx. 8" x 10" is a good size to work with, depending on the image you choose. Please choose a photo with good contrast and resolution.

About the Instructor: Tom Taylor
Tom was Born in Dortmund, Germany. Tom moved to Canada at a young age and lived in Northern B.C. for 14 years where his passion for art was fuelled. After graduating from the graphic arts program at Langara College. Tom then attended BCIT in the Architectural and Building Technology Program and graduated with a Architectural Design Major.While pursuing his business career, Tom continued painting and drawing after hours at home.
