Coffee, tea and snacks will be served. There will be 1/2 hour for lunch and you are responsible for bringing your own. Please arrive 20 minutes early to get settled in. 

Level of Difficulty: This workshop is open to all levels, beginner, intermediate or advanced

Media: Pastels.

Workshop Description: Catherine wants to show fellow artists how simple the pastel method is from startCatherine Sheppard - King Fisher to finish. She will break down how to start a pastel art piece, how to use the materials effeciently and effectively to produce life-like paintings. We will be using pan pastels to start, pastel pencils and stick pastels in a layering technique. Plus useful gouache and charcoal pencil techniques. 

Materials: A complete materials list will be emailed to students.

Don't have pastels supplies? You can use Catherine's top quality pastels and supplies for an extra fee of $40. This would include the use of the following for up to 5 people:

  • tortillion shading stumps,
  • soft sponges & applicators,
  • pan pastels,
  • stick pastels,
  • pastel pencils,
  • gum erasers
  • stylus tools.

Other supplies needed. These can be provided for an extra fee of $25:

  • A sheet of pastelmat sanded paper with Glassine protective cover size 30cm x 40cm (11.8 inch x 15.75 inch)
  • A sheet of saral transfer paper
  • Colour printout of the king fisher bird
  • 1 General's White Charcoal Pencil
  • Black Gouche with the use of her 0 Brush.

About the Instructor: Catherine was raised in rural Manitoba. She attended a community college for graphic art and photography. She has achieved a Master Pastelist level in Pastel Artists of Canada Art Society. She paints using pastels in a representational method and conducts workshops in BC.
