Zoom Leader

Looking to Build a Guild Zoom Team

Are you looking to develop your Zoom skills for Guild activities and elsewhere in your life?

The Guild is looking for 6-10+ people willing to form a new Zoom Team to support the Guild going forward. We’re offering a free online workshop series for members interested in developing their Zoom skills and helping out on a Guild Zoom Team.

After taking this workshop, you’ll be more knowledgeable and confident in your ability to host Zoom meetings and to support the Guild with its online activities. Plus you’ll be able to carry these skills into other arenas where you play and work.

What: Online Zoom Workshops: Q&A and Demos. PreWork: Online Self-Study of “How to Videos”. The prework is required as we will only discuss the videos and not spend any time to review them during the live portion of our workshop.

When:  Tuesdays, January 18 and 25, from 7 pm to 8:30 pm (Additional workshops may be scheduled to discuss how a Zoom Team would function, as well as to address emergent participant questions and interests).

Who This is For: Guild Members Only. Committee members/heads, and members with access to and comfortable working on a computer (smart tablet or phone not sufficient). New members are warmly invited.

Instructor: Myriam Laberge and other knowledgeable Guild Zoom members.

Why This Is Important to the Guild

We started meeting in virtual space at the Guild on the Zoom online platform almost two years years ago. Likely you've also met online with your families, community, school, and work. By now most of us realize that online Guild meetings, demos and workshops will not suddenly stop when the pandemic is finally over, nor should they!

Most would like to preserve the greater flexibility and reach that Zoom offers in how we choose to meet and learn. Some of the benefits we’ve experienced of online offerings include:

  • No need to drive in the dark, cold and/or inclement weather to Artists Connect.
  • Greater ease for members at a distance, or of differing ability, to participate
  • Ability to hear and see quite well, often even better than onsite at the Guild
  • Easy to set up meetings and demos (plus no take-down!)
  • Access to features such as polls, Chat, breakouts to mirror in-person gatherings
  • Recording feature to capture key moments/meetings for reference

In a way, it's like the guild now has two types of spaces from which we can serve our members and patrons: physical and virtual space. Historically, a Facility Committee was established to set-up and maintain our physical space. The Guild now has a need for a dedicated Zoom Team capable of setting up and managing our Virtual Space for our online activities.

This free workshop is to help develop the skill and capability of more Guild members so that we can continue to operate successfully online and on our physical premises.

Note: The licensed Zoom audio-conferencing online platform is completely independent of the Guild website. While a new Zoom Team would likely be a sub-group of the Web Team (TBD), additional resources/helpers are needed as the Web Team does not have the capacity to also manage Zoom.
