This is a rare case of “water over oil”! The linocut image is in black oil based ink. The blue, which was added later, is water based ink. The blue was applied to the Lino and dragged up the paper as water was drizzled from above creating a unique watery image. The image combines the female form and the ovum depicting both the protective strength and nestling comfort of the fetal environment. One can see this as a simple abstraction in black and blue or delve deeply into the meaning of conception.
