Susan Pellaers, Smooth Ascension
24" x 16", Acrylic on canvas, CAN$400.00 - Available for Sale
Still life traditionally depicts mortality: the bloom of flowers before they wither; the ripeness of fruit before they rot. I have used the still life style to represent immortality, or the belief of something after this life. Showing the blender as unplugged is a cheeky way to portray death. The fruit are no longer in their physical forms; but, rather, continue as part of something bigger...the smoothie (life force). Honey is added for sweetness, and it lasts forever (everlasting). The measuring cup is included to allude to the measuring of our lives - how much kindness? The viewpoint brings the eye up the blender, looking skywards. It is a reflection on the idea of Paradise in the afterlife...whatever the belief.
